The artist behind: Art for the heart, Ingela Johansson

Hi, I’m Ingela Johansson, an artist from Sweden. I believe in the transformative power of emotions expressed through art. My work is about embracing your emotions—every single one—and letting them take form in paint. I focus on themes of sensuality, dreams, desires, and the freedom to express these without judgment or societal taboos. In essence, my art is for the heart ❤️.

A Global Artistic Journey

My journey as a professional artist began in 2014 in Singapore and later Malaysia, where I started exploring art as a universal language. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to exhibit my work and teach art and creativity in nine countries, reaching art lovers across the globe. Today, my art is part of collections internationally, and it’s humbling to know that my work brings life and energy to so many spaces.

In 2020, I returned to Sweden, where nature became a profound source of inspiration. The colors, textures, and serenity of the Swedish landscape have deeply influenced my work, adding another layer of emotion and depth to my creations.  You can find my work in the New Zealand High Commision and The Swedish Embassy in Singapore. I did live painting events for Tatle Home in Singaore and worked with Studio Miu, Di Legno Gallery and The Art Club in Singapore to name a few. You can find articles in the press section, or read my blog from Singapore here.

Inspired by Nature and Mindfulness

Whenever possible, I love painting outside in plein air, immersing myself in the ever-changing light, colors, and energy of the natural world. This connection to nature not only informs my art but also grounds me in the moment. Before I paint, I often take a walk or meditate.
These moments of mindfulness help me center my thoughts, letting creativity flow naturally onto the canvas. This practice allows me to channel the beauty of nature and the emotions it evokes directly into my work. Whether it’s the rustling leaves of a forest or the serene stillness of a lakeside, these elements find their way into the textures and layers of my art.

The art making process

My creative process is as multi-faceted as the stories I tell through my art. I use materials like torn collage edges, coffee, crushed marble, charcoal, ink, and acrylics to create a sensory experience that evokes movement, life, and energy. Each piece is a blend of textures and techniques, designed to invite emotions and stories into your space.

Art has the unique power to transform spaces. It can bring warmth and harmony to a room or spark meaningful conversations around a dinner table. For example, my "Dreamscape" series—art prints inspired by tranquility and dreams—creates a soothing yet engaging atmosphere for any setting.
