What’s the story?

For a long time, I have been asking this question about art — and about the stories we bring with us when we look at a painting.

Last year, when I exhibited in Seattle, I lost my voice just before my talk at the gallery. My daughter stepped in instead and invited the audience to share what they saw in the paintings. What followed was a wonderful conversation — and an experience that stayed with me.

It made me wonder: What happens when conversation becomes part of the exhibition? What happens when we meet around colour, stories and the things we each see in a painting?

That question became Art Meet.

On this occasion, we will gather at the top of the Kinectics Tower, with views across Seattle and, if the weather is kind, Mount Rainier in the distance.

The paintings will be the starting point. The conversations are where the experience unfolds.

Come and discover the stories you see in the paintings. Share your thoughts, meet new people, and experience art in a way that is open, curious and personal.

This is Art Meet.

The Seattle event follows the first Art Meet in Karlstad, Sweden, and will be followed by Stockholm.

About the artist

Ingela Johansson

Ingela Johansson is the kind of artist who doesn’t simply decorate a room — she changes how it feels to be in it. A Swedish contemporary artist, she has exhibited internationally.

Her creative process is less about sitting neatly at a desk and more about moving between meditation, music and nature, following wherever the creative flow takes her. The result? Paintings that pulse with energy — shifting textures, bold colour combinations and materials that seem to have lived a life of their own before reaching the canvas.

Coffee stains, torn paper, charcoal, ink — nothing is off limits if it helps tell the story.

At the heart of Ingela Johansson’s work is a deep exploration of femininity. Her paintings honour the messy, the raw, the joyful and the unapologetically free. These are not artworks that politely whisper from a corner — they speak, sometimes loudly, about identity and truth.

Her path to becoming an artist has been anything but linear. From studying at The American College in London for Applied Arts, to art history at Sotheby’s and fashion design, Ingela’s diverse background can be felt in her art.

She has lived and worked as an artist in Singapore and Malaysia.

In 2020, she expanded her creative philosophy into print with Create to Flow — a book and card deck designed to help others unlock their own creative process without overthinking it.

Today, Ingela Johansson continues to create, exhibit and teach internationally, helping people reconnect with creativity — not to perform, but simply to be.

Ingela was born in Karlstad and moved back to Värmland in 2020.
